ross you & sam's beautiful lane's wedding
My first Wedding of the year took me somewhere I'd never shot before, even though it was right on my doorstep.
Lanes Hotel in West Coker near Yeovil was a beautiful setting for Ross & Sam's Wedding day in April and I was delighted that they'd selected me for their Wedding Photography. Ross and I actually know each other through a mutual friend so it great being able to catch up. I also knew a few guests at the wedding which always makes me feel right at home. In fact one of their evening guests was my first ever paying client!
Lanes is a real Gem of a Wedding venue near Yeovil. Their ceremony and reception room is immaculately decorated and styled, as is the hotel throughout which provided amazing features, lighting and opportunities during their Wedding Prep to add some really creative elements to their Wedding collection.
One thing that makes a real difference for me, and is of paramount importance to couples, at all venues is the quality of the team. They were top notch. Keely and Matt really looked after Ross & Sam and did a great job of making sure that they had the day that they'd dreamed of - they looked after me with free soft drinks.
SIDE NOTE: For any other venue managers reading - it wouldn't kill you to give us a couple of free soft drinks. Many venues will ask us for pictures to promote your venue, which we're happy to do, but then when you charge me £3 for a diet coke I feel less like I want to share those pictures with you. Just saying like. In the case of Lanes though - they were spot on.
Everything went as planned, apart from the registrar not reading the memo (she didn't listen to Keeley or myself) about which direction everyone should go after the ceremony. So poor Keeley had to get the whole Wedding back through the ceremony room in the other direction before she could serve reception drinks, bless her.
I was blessed on the day with an amazing people wrangler in Kirst. She was the authoritative and calming presence that was required to get people in position for family photos - you need a good people wrangler - I'll always make sure you identify one to help me on your wedding day so that this part runs smoothy - I offered her a part time job but she wasn't keen on the pay, the hours, or the boss…
Speeches were brilliant. Best Man Anth's Acrostic themed speech of working through Paul/Ross/Dexter's name was really good and really original. I laughed out loud in many places and it's definitely up there as one of the better best man speeches I've witnessed.
SIDE NOTE: Best man speeches often underwhelm. People are nervous, worried they won't be funny , worried they'll freeze. So they keep them super short. Like literally 2 minutes short. But I can't encourage people enough to have a good go - tell the slightly inappropriate story, tell the couple how privileged you are, give them a bloody good toast and celebrate them. It might be something you only get to do once - embrace it. Enjoy it.
One of the remarkable things about this early April Wedding was the weather. No rain just amazing sunshine all day which meant that people were able to be outside and enjoy the stunning outdoors Gardens that Lane's have to offer. On this particular day the trees had just gone into a full blossom which just looked amazing in Ross & Sam's couples photos. I'll always look to harness any features of your venue into your Wedding collection and this gave me a great opportunity to do so - and I'm no horticulturalist - but trees only blossom for so long, right? So Ross & Sam's photos will be totally unique, which I absolutely love!
Ross & Sam - Thank you so much for choosing me to be your Wedding Photographer!!
